PIT FIRE CERAMICS WORKSHOP AT ANKENY ART CENTER

Thurs, Sept 9 from 7-9pm and Sat, Sept 25 from 12-4pm.

  The Ankeny Art Center will host a special ceramics workshop with Iowa artist Pam Dennis on September 9 and September 25 for ages 16-adult.  Pam is noted for her large spheres and sculptures made of ceramics and willow. She will have a 2 part workshop at the Art Center. Some ceramics experience is needed.
           

Fee: $75 non-members/ $60.00 member discount.

   
                       
            Thursday, Sept 9 from 7-9pm  Make bowls and containers by pressing clay into a bowl form and pressing leaves and other textures into the clay to make unique art with artist Pam Dennis.

                         Saturday, Sept  25 from 12-4pm , We will go to Pam’s  studio in rural Ogden. Get a tour of her studio, have a pot luck lunch and appetizers, and participate in a  pit-fire style firing of our art. Pit firing is done by  covering the ceramic pieces with wood and other materials. The “pit kiln” is then set on fire and a car hood is used for the lid on top of it. The materials in the pit kiln give the ceramics black, gray, salmon and pink colors in irregular and beautiful patterns. Finished pieces will be picked up at the Art Center.

Fee includes clay and firing. Please bring a dish and a drink to share at the pot luck. Instructions to the farm will be provided at the first class. Class size is limited, so sign up early! No wheel throwing ability is needed. Ages 16-adult.

     Not an art maker but want to see the studio and pit fire? Join us just for the day on Saturday, September 25 for just $25.00 . ( Sorry, nodiscounts on this)

Fee includes studio tour, watching the pit fire, appetizers, and potluck. All art lovers welcome!
